Jaka Bijol hailed ‘impenetrable’ by Slovenian media after outstanding display away from Leeds

Jaka Bijol returned to form on Tuesday as the Leeds star earned Slovenia a point as they drew 1-1 with Sweden.

Bijol is one of numerous Leeds players on international duty this month as the World Cup qualifying campaign comes to an end.

On Tuesday, Slovenia took on Sweden in a game that meant little for either side, with Switzerland and Kosovo already guaranteed to finish in the top two in the group.

However, after Bijol put in a poor performance for Slovenia last week, he would have been keen to bounce back with a good display.

According to the media, this is something the Leeds United man achieved, with the centre-back being hailed for his display at the Strawberry Arena.

Jaka Bijol was ‘as solid as a wall’ against Sweden

Since coming into Leeds’ starting XI, Bijol has been immense.

While questions have been rightly asked about some of Daniel Farke’s signings in the summer, the addition of the centre-back looks superb.

For the Slovenians, this is not surprising, with the 67-cap star being a regular for his nation since 2018.

On Tuesday, he showed once again why he is so highly rated as the defender kept the Swedes at bay for most of the game, only conceding in the 87th minute.

Rating his performance, Ekipa on 18 November gave Bijol a 7.5/10 before writing: “With the captain’s armband around his left arm, he was as solid as a wall, impenetrable.

“He won the vast majority of the matches, blocked some dangerous shots from the Swedes, and was excellent.”

What were Bijol’s stats vs Sweden?

According to Fotmob on 19 November, few players had a better game than Bijol on Tuesday.

The captain was outstanding defensively, producing six clearances, three blocks and six interceptions.

With Leeds having a horrid run of games approaching, Farke will need Bijol to replicate these types of performances at Elland Road.

If this comes about, there is no reason why the Peacocks can’t pick up points in their upcoming matches.
