Jaidon Anthony reacts to Hannibal Mejbri message after Burnley beat Leeds United

Jaidon Anthony has reacted to a message from Hannibal Mejbri after Burnley beat Leeds United 1-0 at Elland Road on Saturday (14 September).

Daniel Farke’s side were handed their first loss of the EFL Championship season thanks to a Luca Koleosho strike in the 18th minute.

Following the result, Burnley ace Mejbri posted a message via his personal Instagram account (14 September).

The ex-Manchester United man wrote, “Always good to play those type of games, even better when you bring the 3pts at home”.

And on-loan Burnley forward Anthony, who played for Leeds on loan during the 2023/24 campaign, was among the comments, putting a laughing, facepalm and fire emoji.

Mejbri came through the Manchester United academy before signing for Burnley this summer.

Therefore, the 21-year-old was always going to enjoy a victory over Leeds more than his teammates, due to the Whites’ fierce rivalry with his former club.

He could be seen winding up the Leeds faithful as he left the pitch after being substituted during the second half.

As a result, the message he posted – while perhaps frustrating to Leeds supporters – won’t come as a surprise to many fans at Elland Road, who are unlikely to pay too much notice.

However, what will have really infuriated the Leeds faithful is Anthony’s comment. Although the Brazillian is a Burnley player, there will have been plenty of Burnely players who didn’t comment on Mejbri’s post.

Anthony featured for Leeds, albeit only for a season. Therefore, supporters will have hoped that the 24-year old wouldn’t laugh along at a dig aimed at the Whites.

Perhaps Anthony didn’t understand the context of the post. However, either way, it is hard to imagine he would be welcome at Elland Road after his latest comment.
