‘I’ve reached a conclusion very sadly…’ – Piers Morgan sympathetic towards Leeds fans
Piers Morgan admits he feels sorry for Leeds United fans but cannot see any other option than for the season to be declared null and void.
Championship leaders Leeds are the closest they have been to promotion back to the Premier League since their relegation in 2004.
However the coronavirus pandemic has led to their promotion bid being left in limbo with many advocating for the entire campaign to be scrapped as though it never happened.
Television presenter Morgan is one of those and he believes that it would be greatly unfair to end the season with teams in their current positions.
“If you look at it and you’re trying to work out a fair way to end this season if it has to end, I don’t know any fairer way than almost pretending it didn’t happen. There’s are still eight games to go in the Premier League, Liverpool are obviously the runaway favourites to win it, they’re the moral winners but relegation, for example, can make a seismic difference to a club,” Morgan said on Good Morning Britain, as quoted by the Express.
“It can determine their financial ability to perform at the highest level, it can affect everyone but how can you take away eight games and just say were going to end it now and lead it as it is if say one relegation team still hasn’t played three or four of the top teams and the other one has. It’s unfair to me.
“I’ve reached a conclusion very sadly, and I feel particularly sorry for Liverpool fans and Leeds United fans, that the only fair way is to void it altogether.”
Morgan is an Arsenal fan.
Arsenal are ninth in the Premier League with a very slim chance of being able to qualify for the Europa League if the season gets back underway.
It means that those who support Arsenal are likely to back voiding the season because teams like Liverpool and Leeds have people who hate them for no real reason.
We know that we will come across biased but how can Morgan say the fairest outcome is the void the season? The fairest outcome would be to complete all remaining fixtures once it is safe to do so.
