Italian media embarrass themselves with Leeds United update on Wilfried Gnonto exit

The curious case of Wilfried Gnonto just continues to grow at Leeds United, with a new twist what seems like every single month at the minute.

After trying and failing to force a summer exit after relegation from the Premier League, the Italian international has never really worked his way back in.

Daniel Farke finally decided to bring Gnonto back into his starting XI against West Brom on Friday 30 December, and he wasn’t exactly rewarded for that in the end.

West Brom left with all three points, but the winger was far from the problem in yet another repeat of what Farke has been failing to do for weeks now.

It all comes after Il Romanista reported on 28 December that Leeds are finally ready to green-light an exit for the attacker once the window opens in January.

To make this story even more bizarre, they claim that he will be able to do so for a measly fee of only £8.7million, with Lazio and Fiorentina circling.

The Italian media has never really come with a huge reputation, but this takes the top spot of embarrassing stories to come out ahead of the January window.

Why on earth would the 49ers Enterprises and Leeds sell one of their best players for under £10million? Whether he is playing or not, that is simply ludicrous.

Especially after only months ago, they were said to be demanding up to £40million for the attacker when Everton wanted to take him back to the Premier League [Dean Jones].

There is still a future for Gnonto in West Yorkshire, and when Farke hands him that consistent chance again, he has to take it with both hands and fire Leeds back to the big time.

Despite being very well-timed, these reports are nothing short of embarrassing.
