Italian football expert says Leeds United could make 'incredible signing'

Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez would be an “incredible signing” for Leeds United, according to editor-in-chief at Forza Italian Football Conor Clancy.

The 26-year-old Uruguayan has been linked with a move away from Serie A and Leeds are among the clubs interested in his signature [Tutto Mercato].

Cagliari are currently struggling in the Italian top flight, languishing in 18th and at threat of relegation to Serie B.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Clancy said: “If they manage to sign him, that’s an incredible signing because I’m a big fan of his.

“He’s not quite been at his best this season. I don’t know if the rumours and the speculation have aided that but I think he’s a really good player.”

He needs to move

The Punta Del Este-born midfielder has already made over 80 appearances for Cagliari since he moved to Europe from Boca Juniors in 2019 but he hasn’t enjoyed such a good season in 2021-22, as Clancy mentioned.

The Sicilian side’s poor results hasn’t helped Nandez find any kind of form but the fact that clubs are still interested in him says everything you need to know about his quality.

And now is probably the right time for him to move on from Cagliari having settled there since the big move halfway across the world.

Maybe Leeds United is the ideal location for his next move, where fellow South Americans Marcelo Bielsa and Raphinha can help him adapt to Yorkshire.

As long as Leeds put up the money required, Nandez’s contract negotiations should hopefully be a breeze and the Uruguayan will add to Bielsa’s thin squad.
