‘It would be stupid’ – Bielsa hits out at media over Bamford question ahead of Leeds v Burnley

Marcelo Bielsa has hit out at the media for a question they asked Patrick Bamford after Leeds United lost to Manchester United on Sunday.

According to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay, Bamford was asked whether the players would ask Bielsa to change his style to stem the flow of goals being conceded after losing 6-2 at Old Trafford. Bamford responded by saying no.

Bielsa wasn’t impressed by that question and criticised the press for asking Bamford it ahead of Leeds’ meeting with Burnley at Elland Road on Sunday.

Speaking in a press conference on Christmas Eve, Bielsa was quoted by Hay as saying “More than you guys (the media) suggesting the style should be abandoned, I don’t feel weakened by what you are suggesting.

“It would be stupid on my part (to change) given the resources I have.”

Go on, Marcelo

Bielsa has been asked some stupid questions this season as the mainstream media has increased their interest in Leeds due to their promotion to the Premier League.

In the Championship, Bielsa was usually faced with local journalists or just a small selection of journalists from the bigger companies in the media.

Now, he has to deal with more journalists who ask ridiculous questions to try and provoke a reaction from the players and managers.

Bielsa won’t stand for it and we don’t blame him.

If the journalists who get access to these press conferences know anything about Bielsa then they won’t ask whether his system will get changed.

And you can bet that the players won’t undermine their manager either by asking him to change his tactics.

Bielsa knows best.

Leeds are in the Premier League with a large part of that owing to Bielsa.
