'It won't happen in January' – Exclusive: Paul Robinson rules out one reported Leeds transfer
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Leeds will not sign Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson in January.
Leeds have been linked with a move for the towering centre-back in either the January or the summer window.
However, Robinson has said that a new centre-back is not needed at Elland Road at the moment and that even if it was, Steven Gerrard would never let a key player like Goldson leave mid-season.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, we asked Robinson if he could see Goldson arriving in January.
“Not at all,” said Robinson. “With Ben White, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi, they’ve handled the defence very well this season.

“White has been outstanding, possibly the player of the year.
“And then there’s the idea of doing a deal with Rangers in January. I don’t think there’s any chance of that.
“They’ve got the chance to win the league for the first time in years and I can’t see Steven Gerrard being willing to weaken his squad.
“That’s a real leftfield one and it won’t happen in January.”
Marcelo Bielsa’ squad is paper-thin and the cracks are starting to show.
Kalvin Phillips has been suspended for three games following his red card against QPR and with Adam Forshaw injured there’s no natural replacement.
Last time Phillips was out, Bielsa moved White up to the defensive midfield position and brought Berardi into the team.
However, Berardi missed the QPR game through injury and that could create a problem in defence.
A new centre-back would be welcome but it is unlikely that Gerrard would let a key member of his side leave in such an important season.
