Patrick Bamford has said that Leeds United took their foot off the pedal against Sheffield United and that if they had been on their A-game, they could have won 8-1.
Leeds took the three points but the 2-1 final score wasn’t the most convincing, after a game where Bamford’s men dominated.
Talking on the Official Leeds United Podcast Bamford said, “As far as the games have gone it’s one of our worst, the way we played as a team.
“It sounds weird because we won but I think we were a bit sloppy and I think if we were on top of the game and hadn’t taken our foot off the pedal it could have been 7-1 or 8-1.
“I don’t want to say they made it easy but they didn’t put up much of a fight.
“I think if we were on our A-game, you could see in the final 10 minutes when we were breaking, we were running forward with five of our players and they were struggling to get back, we just couldn’t find the final pass, it was a bit disappointing.”
Nice one Paddy
We absolutely love this. The Sheffield United fans really won’t want to read it.
As far as xG goes, Understat thought the game should have been won by a wider margin, but not by that much.
They saw the game as 2.51 – 0.87 but, as Bamford said, if the Leeds players had found their passes late on, this would have looked very different.
That’s a testament to the team’s fitness and they never stop pouring forward.
It’s also brilliant to hear Bamford talk so freely about how good Leeds could have been.
We’re so used to players just coming out with lines like, ‘They put up a strong challenge, it wasn’t easy.’
Bamford talked like a Leeds fan and we were all wondering how the game was only 2-1 after 90 minutes.
Bamford and his teammates get a chance to put it right at the Etihad this weekend when they take on Man City in the early kick-off. (Joke.)
Hopefully, the score won’t be 7-1 or 8-1 on Saturday, as we can’t see us being on the right end of that.
