Ipswich ace Harry Clarke trolls Leeds United with social media post after playoff final defeat

Ipswich Town star Harry Clarke has taken to social media to mock Leeds United following the Whites’ playoff final defeat against Southampton.

Leeds missed out on an automatic promotion spot, finishing third in the Championship behind winners Leicester City and Ipswich.

The Whites beat Norwich City to reach the playoff final but were beaten 1-0 by Southampton at Wembley on Sunday (26 May), prompting Clarke to poke fun at the Yorkshire club’s misfortune online.

He replied to a video of Ipswich’s promotion celebrations in which a song mocking Leeds was sung on his personal X account, posting (26 May): “Don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it.”

Leeds United will regret failing to secure an automatic promotion place

Leeds went on a superb unbeaten run of 15 Championship games from the start of 2024 to the beginning of April that put them in a strong position to secure a top-two finish and automatic promotion.

However, Daniel Farke’s men fell away dramatically in the final two months of the campaign, winning just one of their last six games and losing four times to slip to third, forcing them to contest the playoffs.

That sudden downturn in form has proved costly, now that the Whites have suffered the misery of playoff final defeat and must now spend another season in the second tier.

The Leeds squad may also be forced to undergo major changes as key players could be sold to help the club stay on the right side of spending rules – making it a challenge for Farke to ensure the side remain competitive enough to secure Premier League promotion in 2024/25.
