Inter at a disadvantage in chase for Leeds United star Tyler Adams after World Cup scouting

Inter are interested in signing Leeds United star Tyler Adams if there is even a “glimmer” of hope, la Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

The Serie A giants’ sporting director Piero Ausilio’s trip to watch the USA captain perform at the World Cup in Qatar has reportedly reignited their long-standing interest in the 23-year-old.

Adams impressed on and off the pitch in for his national team, before coming up against a superior Dutch side in the last-16 who exposed the highly-rated young American midfield’s limitations.

Inter are very interested in pursuing him but are currently at a “disadvantage” due to his secure contract status at Elland Road, having only arrived in the summer when he signed a five-year deal.

But according to la Gazzetta Inter appear to be ready to wait around in the hope that even the slightest opening appears.

Dead end

Interest in players who perform well at the World Cup is no surprise but Leeds United will be reaping the benefits of having pulled the trigger on Adams ahead of time, for which they deserve credit.

If all the teams now sniffing about had been in the race in the summer then there is every chance the Whites wouldn’t have had a shot at bringing him in, unless his history with Jesse Marsch was important enough to him.

Having landed him from RB Leipzig for £20million they have seen his value shoot up in the past month, as he took on a leading role in Qatar.

There is virtually zero chance in any team being able to unsettle him for the January window, and it would take a huge increase on what the club paid for him in the summer to get them to consider letting him go after just a year.

Adams will have a big part to play in ensuring there is not a major threat of relegation in the second half of the campaign, as that is surely the most likely reason for him leave sooner rather than later.

He still has developing to do as a player, but his status as a certain starter in West Yorkshire makes it the perfect place for him into the foreseeable future.

However, as his star rises, if United’s standing doesn’t also rise at the same time, there might come a point where he wishes to make a move.
