Insider shares behind-the-scenes insight on Leeds United manager Javi Gracia

New Leeds United manager Javi Gracia is known for his “engaging” training session, reveals an insider after the Spaniard was announced on Tuesday.

According to the Daily Mail (22/02, page 66), the Spaniard puts in a lot of tactical training routines in the build-up to games.

However, there is seldom any player complaining about the intensity of training sessions.

Balance needed

The training sessions under Marcelo Bielsa were called “Murderball” and they certainly took the steam out of a lot of players at the club.

It helped them perform to a higher level in terms of energy, but also led to a number of injuries which eventually led to his downfall.

Training sessions under Jesse Marsch weren’t as intense but then the results on the field of play weren’t as good either as they were under Bielsa.

Gracia’s got to strike the right sort of balance and he needs to win over the dressing room first and foremost and he can only do that by winning games.

It remains to be seen what sort of system he deploys and we’re keen on seeing whether or not a 4-2-2-2 shape could be on the cards.

Leeds have the players to do that and the game against Southampton is going to be his first big test.
