Injury expert: West Ham United sweat on attacker as duo 'ruled out' of Leeds United clash
West Ham United will be without Maxwel Cornet and Kurt Zouma for their Premier League fixture against Leeds United, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery.
David Moyes has confirmed the French central defender is recovering well from knee surgery, but will not be available for the trip to West Yorkshire (Yorkshire Evening Post, 3 January).
The Hammers have also been hit with a fresh injury concern with Michail Antonio also a doubt for the game against the Whites after being hit with an illness.
Dinnery has also ruled Cornet out of the crunch Premier League clash (Premier Injuries website), with the Ivorian winger being sent to Paris to see a specialist over an ongoing calf issue (Football London, 29 December).
This is a huge game for Jesse Marsch and Leeds, with the Irons being one of the most out-of-form teams in the Premier League at the moment. A win for the Whites five points clear of Moyes’ side, with a crucial game in hand. There’s certainly more pressure on the Hammers to go to Elland Road and pick up a positive result.
Games such as this really are season-defining and if Leeds do stay up, there’s a good chance they will look back at the result against the Hammers as a vital point in their season. The point against Newcastle was excellent but it won’t mean anything if the Whites fail to pick up three points on Wednesday evening (4 January).
Zouma is a big loss for West Ham and it’s a chance for Leeds’ attacking threats to make life difficult for Moyes’ fragile defence. It’s imperative the players are expressive in an attacking sense and look to take the game to the Irons.
There are certainly a number of weaknesses which they could exploit if they execute their game plan correctly.
