Injury expert shares Southampton team news ahead of Leeds United Premier League showdown

Southampton are set to be without three players for their Premier League clash against Leeds United, according to injury expert, Ben Dinnery.

19-year-old Juan Larios isn’t expected to return until 1 March after being sidelined with a groin injury. Midfielder Stuard Armstrong and full-back Valentino Livramento are also missing with long-term injuries.

Saints’ caretaker manager Ruben Selles is also sweating on the fitness of Che Adams. The striker is currently injured with a “knock” and Dinnery has ranked his chances of playing at “50 per cent” (Premier Injuries website).

Baptism of fire

A fixture against a direct relegation rival is certainly a baptism of fire for Javi Gracia. The former Watford boss was announced as Leeds United’s new head coach on Tuesday (21 February) and has been tasked with ensuring the Yorkshire side’s Premier League survival.

It’s clear the defeat at Everton has forced the board’s hand. Had Leeds come away from Goodison Park with three points, the board may well have been content with allowing Michael Skubala to lead the side until the season’s end. However, this side are in a dismal run of form and a more experienced head was certainly required.

Southampton will leapfrog Leeds with a win on Saturday and it’s an outcome which cannot be considered. This group of players have shown they’re capable of competing, with the 2-2 draw against Manchester United being a perfect example.

Unfortunately for Gracia, he doesn’t have the luxury of easing himself into his role at Elland Road. His first fixture is a must-win and anything less could well see the Whites struggling to retain their Premier League status.
