Injury expert: Ruben Dias ruled out of Manchester City v Leeds United Premier League clash
Manchester City defender Ruben Dias is out of their Premier League clash with Leeds United according to injury expert, Ben Dinnery.
The Daily Mail reported on 22 December that the 25-year-old had suffered a thigh injury in Portugal’s round of 16 victory over Switzerland.
Dinnery has revealed on his website (Premier Injuries) that Dias will miss the game along with Julian Alvarez who has been celebrating Argentina’s World Cup victory.
Kalvin Phillips is also a doubt for the game after returning to the Premier League champions overweight after World Cup in Qatar.
Dias is a top-class defender and will be missed by Manchester City, however, Guardiola’s side have an endless abundance of talent in their ranks who will adequately fill in for the Portugal international. Leeds’ task on Wednesday (28 December) won’t get any easier, that is for sure.
Facing City is the toughest test the Whites could have been assigned on their Premier League return and Jesse Marsch will be looking to continue his good record against top six sides. Leeds have beaten Chelsea and Liverpool already in the 2022/23 campaign and were extremely unfortunate not to beat Arsenal at Elland Road.
Defensively the West Yorkshire side will have to be at their very best if they wish to gain any sort of positive result against the Manchester powerhouse. Erling Haaland’s form has been sensational and the Norwegian is fit and firing ahead of the trip to Elland Road. Keeping close tabs on the 22-year-old is a must for whoever lines up in the centre of defence.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are now ready to fight with a European giant to bring a former player back to the club.
