Patrick Bamford could be available for Leeds United this weekend when they take on Premier League title contenders Chelsea at Elland Road.

The England international was withdrawn in the second half of the 2-2 draw against Wolves with Jesse Marsch saying that it was not too serious.

However, there were doubts over his availability on Sunday, but it now seems that he is in contention to be available for that one.

Speaking on YouTube, injury expert Ben Dinnery said, “Bamford didn’t quite feel 100 per cent but it wasn’t a pull or a tear. It was more around the discomfort and a little bit of tightness. So Bamford is one who could be back with the squad ahead of this weekend.”

Worth the risk?

There are no recognised and reliable number nines in this team so Leeds have to turn to Bamford if he’s available.

However, last season they tried to bring him back earlier than normal and he ended up re-injuring himself while celebrating a goal.

The Wolves game injury did not look pretty and while it may be only in the moment, we would rather Jesse Marsch keeps him on the bench for this one.

This also should not mean that the club do not prioritise getting in a striker and should ideally finalise it before the game.

That seems unlikely as the club do not look to be making any progress on that front despite Jesse Marsch prioritising a move for one.

They cannot let the window in without signing a player who’s an upgrade on Bamford and there does seem to be money to get a big-name player in.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
