Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa as an “incredible” coach after the FIFA awards on Thursday.
The German took home the award for the second time in his career, with El Loco finishing third behind Hansi Flick of Bayern Munich.
Klopp has been impressed by Bielsa this season, and everyone remembers his reaction to the opening day clash at Anfield.
Speaking at the awards via the Yorkshire Evening Post, Klopp claimed that Bielsa not winning the award doesn’t mean he hasn’t had an “incredible” year.
“He’s doing an incredible job at Leeds,” he said.
“[Not winning this award] doesn’t say anything bad about Marcelo Bielsa, one of the most influential coaches in world football. I have never met anyone who had anything bad to say about him.
“He is known as a great football brain, winning an award or not does not make you a bad coach. My opinion doesn’t change about him, he’s an incredible, incredible coach.”
Not many could have done what Bielsa has done with this Leeds squad.
Looking at that first game he took charge of against Stoke, 11 of those who were involved are still at the club, with eight of those starting against Newcastle.
Although they have proved otherwise, this is still technically a squad of Championship players, and Bielsa has transformed them into players capable of challenging the best in the Premier League.
Klopp was pictured saying “wow” after the 4-3 game this season, and he is one of many to have been left amazed by Bielsa.
El Loco has not only captured the imagination of Leeds but the entire footballing world.
