‘In the city’ – David Ornstein claims player has arrived in Leeds & set to complete move
Freiburg centre-back Robin Koch has arrived in the city and will take his medical this weekend ahead of a reported £13m move to Leeds United.
The Leeds fans were mobilised today and weren’t missing anything after Koch posted an image of himself on a plane accompanied with the caption, “Let’s go”.
One supporter posted footage of what he claimed was Koch landing at Leeds on Saturday.
Athletic journalist Phil Hay relayed that news with a “lol” emoji.
Fellow Athletic journalist David Ornstein then confirmed that Koch was “in the city ahead of completing his proposed move from Freiburg”.
Ornstein also said that Leeds were “never strong contenders for [Rob] Holding” as the Arsenal player homed in on a move to Newcastle.
Koch another astute signing
Leeds fans might have wanted White back this season but Koch is a fine alternative.
Stats from LUFCDATA paint the picture of Koch as a ball-playing centre-back who will add important aerial ability to the Leeds backline.
If there was one weakness at the back since Pontus Jansson left it was in the air. Koch won 3.8 aerial duels per 90 in the Bundesliga last season at an impressive success rate of 69.5%.
He’s played as a defensive midfielder for Freiburg, so he will also be able to play that role, as White did, if Kalvin Phillips is out.
That’s why we think it’s so important that Leeds sign another centre-back after Koch signs.
Koch been playing in a double pivot in a 4-4-2 for Freiburg, which is different to Leeds.
However, having that cover is important and we’re sure that Koch will continue to develop under Bielsa.
