'I'm embarrassed', 'We are not helping ourselves' - Many Leeds fans react to Charlton statement
Charlton have moved to condemn those who have abused Jonathan Leko and Macauley Bonne after Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla was banned for racist abuse.
Casilla was hit with an eight-match ban last week after the FA found that the 33-year-old goalkeeper racially abused West Brom attacker Leko, while he was on loan at Charlton earlier this season.
Since the case concluded, there has been a minority of fans who have been seen abusing Leko and Bonne on social media after Bonne featured as a witness for his former team-mate.
Charlton have issued a statement on their official website that praises Leko and Bonne for standing up against racism in football and reminds those abusing the players that Leko is the victim in all of this.
After seeing Charlton’s statement, a number of Leeds fans have reacted, with most of them offering apologies on behalf of their fellow fans.
It is a shame that some people have decided to react in the way that they have.

The FA released their findings on Tuesday and even though it makes for very damning reading against Casilla, there are still some who are finding it hard to believe.
This has been a very ugly episode but at least there are some fans who are acting gracefully on Twitter.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Good statement, apologies in advance for whatever abuse a minority of 'fans' are going throw their way in response to this

This is pretty shocking from a Leeds Fan. We are not helping ourselves tonight with all this news

For the record I'm an #lufc fan and I don't condone racism or abuse of your players at all. Racism has no place in the game and respect for the two young men coming forward. This needs stamping out of the game ASAP.

Sorry your players have had to endure abuse. There should be no place for it & it embarrasses me.

Sorry to hear this. Don't represent us all. Hope the players concerned are aware of that.

Embarrassed by the fans of the club for the abuse given on twitter and other social media. Can only apologise for their abhorrent behaviour.

The vast majority of @LUFC fans are decent folk but the lunatic fringe keep ruining it for us,whether its on here, social media or out and about. At least they've started the Supporters Advisory Board again so maybe something can come from that?

These people do NOT represent the majority of Leeds United fans.

In other Leeds United news, fans want this player who looks “completely finished” to be axed from Marcelo Bielsa’s line-up.
