‘I’m convinced…’ – Micah Richards says Leeds were wrong to sack Marcelo Bielsa
Leeds were wrong to sack Marcelo Bielsa last week with Micah Richards telling the Daily Mail he was ‘convinced’ they were going to stay up under him.
Bielsa left the club after three-and-a-half years following nine defeats in 12 games last week and fans were not happy with the decision, although they are supporting new boss Jesse Marsch.
But Richards has written in his weekly column that he is in ‘full agreement’ with the fans that Bielsa should have stayed and says while they were ‘naive’ he was sure they’d stay up under the Argentine.

“The mood around Leeds has changed this week,” he said. “I know and speak to a lot of Leeds fans and the devastation they feel about Marcelo Bielsa’s sacking is incredible. Not one of them has told me it was the right decision. I’m in full agreement.
“Leeds were naive at times under Bielsa and things needed tweaking defensively to stop the amount of goals they were conceding but I am convinced he would have kept them up and, if not, they could have made a fresh start in the summer.
“I hope Jesse Marsch can keep them in the top flight.”
Time to move on
At this point it doesn’t matter whether it was the right or wrong decision to sack Bielsa, because the decision has been made.

There’s no point thinking about what may or may not have happened if the 66-year-old had stayed at the club, because now Marsch is in charge and steering the ship towards safety.
He is looking to change the way the team plays while also ensuring their Premier League status, so that he can begin building his own squad in the summer.
But he will need all the help he can get from the stands, with the Elland Road faithful one of the most passionate and vocal fan-bases in the country.
Richards is hopeful that he can get the job done, and so are Leeds fans, so while we can all wish Bielsa well and reminisce on the great things he did, it’s time to move on from his reign now.
