‘I’m almost glad’ – Leeds star makes frank admission about Whites fans after Man Utd loss
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has admitted that he is glad Whites fans weren’t at Old Trafford as his side lost 6-2 to Manchester United.
The Whites found themselves two goals behind after a matter of minutes at the start of the game on what proved to be a disappointing return to Old Trafford for Leeds in this historic fixture.
Speaking after the game, Bamford claimed that the result would’ve felt even worse if away fans were at the game.
Bamford is quoted by The Express as saying, “We started softly, and that’s the most disappointing thing. In a big game like this, a derby, where it means so much to the club and the fans.
“I’m almost glad the fans weren’t allowed in to watch that because it would have felt even worse sending them home after watching that.
“It’s tough because 6-2 – it could have 6-6 if you’re an optimistic Leeds fan or it could have been 10-2. We couldn’t do ourselves justice.”
If Leeds fans were in attendance during Sunday’s game they would have left Old Trafford disappointed but they also would’ve witnessed a cracking goal from Stuart Dallas as the Whites players did their best to get their side back into the game.
In truth, Leeds were second best all afternoon as they were blown away by the clinical Red Devils.
Perhaps if fans were allowed in, they could have helped to inspire the Leeds players and keep their side in the game despite the relentless Man United attack.
Hopefully, fans will be allowed back at Elland Road when the sides meet later in the season so they can help Bielsa and his men exact some revenge on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Whites fans will be wanting a reaction when their side take on Burnley next time out in the Premier League as Bamford and his teammates look to bounce back from Sunday’s disappointing defeat.
In other Leeds United news, some Whites fans praised one player’s performance against Manchester United despite the poor result.
