Illan Meslier to stay at Leeds United as Real Madrid news emerges on Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga
Illan Meslier is poised to stay put at Leeds United for the time being as news emerged about Real Madrid and Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on Twitter on Saturday (12 August) that the Spaniard has rejected Bayern Munich for Los Blancos as they are looking to replace the injured Thibaut Courtois.
According to Spanish media outlet Sport (11 August), Madrid were also considering a move for Meslier, but seems like they’ve settled on Kepa.
Plettenberg wrote, “Kepa is close to reject FC Bayern as there was the feeling for the club that he wanted to join them. But there were no agreements as reported. Kepa, NOW on verge to join Real Madrid to replace Courtois. Bayern informed.”
Meslier is still facing an uncertain future at Elland Road as Karl Darlow arrived from Newcastle this summer.
While the Frenchman started the first league game of the season, Darlow came in for the cup game and Daniel Farke admitted that he’s tempted to retain the Englishman’s services.

If Meslier is to get his career back on track and get into the France reckoning once again, he’ll need to play regularly this season.
Darlow’s arrival will certainly put that in jeopardy and while he looks set to stay now given Real Madrid finding a new keeper, things may change in the next few weeks.
In other Leeds United news, the club could look to rekindle their interest in a Golden Boot winner who Daniel Farke will love and it will take £15million to get the deal done.
