Illan Meslier to exit Leeds United for ‘very good’ price tag – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson believes Illan Meslier could leave Leeds United for a “very good” price if the club is relegated to the Championship.

The Daily Star claimed (17 August) that Leeds value the 23-year-old at £25million with the likes of Chelsea rumoured to be interested.

Despite Meslier’s poor performances of late, Robinson believes the “top-class” Frenchman will almost certainly depart if Leeds return to the second tier.

“Regardless of how Leeds do, his value will stay the same,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“He’s such a top prospect and he will be in the French squad before long. I am surprised he hasn’t been named in the French squad sooner.

“I don’t know why he wasn’t in ahead of Mandanda and Areola. Lloris is moving on and there’s going to be a gap for him in there soon.

“He’s a top-class goalkeeper and I would love to see him stay, but if Leeds are in the Championship you can almost guarantee he will move on to bigger and better things at a very good price tag.”

The Times reported (14 March) that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Meslier’s situation, with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Édouard Mendy’s futures at Stamford Bridge in doubt.

It’s been a difficult couple of weeks for the Frenchman, who was at fault for goals against Bournemouth and Fulham. Things won’t get any easier for Leeds keeper, with a trip to face Manchester City up next (6 May).

In other Leeds United news, one former Premier League manager believes the Whites may just “scrape out of trouble” under new boss Allardyce.
