Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier was a notable absence from the Premier League clash against Brighton on Saturday.
There were rumours that the Frenchman had tested positive for COVID-19, with Kiko Casilla keeping his spot from the Crawley defeat.
Marcelo Bielsa has defended the Spaniard this week, but he couldn’t do anything to prevent Leeds losing 1-0 at Elland Road.
Meslier has taken to his personal Instagram account to send a message to the Whites fans, thanking them for their messages and admitting he is recovering well.
“Sorry to miss today,” he wrote.
“Behind you all the way boys. Thank you to the fans for all the support, I’m recovering well. Please stay safe. See you soon.”
Meslier has been hot and cold this season.
One thing we can all agree on is that the youngster is gaining great experience and impressing where he can, based on how many shots he is facing.
Only Karl Darlow and Sam Johnstone have made more saves in the Premier League, and thankfully, there is more than enough time after this one to recover.
With the Southampton game suspended, Meslier will likely be ready to regain his spot in between the sticks against Newcastle at St James’ Park.
Bielsa defending Casilla or not, it doesn’t change the fact that the Whites made a huge mistake keeping him at the club last season.
