Ilia Gruev out for months as Leeds United hit by another crushing blow

Leeds United will be without Ilia Gruev for months after his latest injury blow, Graham Smyth has shared.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist described the news as a “Hammer blow” with the Bulgarian international requiring surgery.

Gruev was forced off in the 1-1 draw against Norwich City on Tuesday 1 October, days after Ethan Amapdu was confirmed to be out until January.

Massive blow for Ilia Gruev and Leeds United

The Whites have confirmed that the midfielder picked up a significant injury to his meniscus with an extended period on the sidelines ahead.

Daniel Farke will be pulling his hair out with the amount of bad luck he has had in one week.

Not only are Ampadu and Gruev now out long-term, but Max Wober has also undergone surgery in Innsbruck and will be out for up to six weeks [LAOLA1].

This is a serious blow, and now new signings Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell will be expected to step up massively in the heart of midfield.

With Wober out too, Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon will need to stay fit and avoid injury, or the academy players will need to step up.

James Debayo and Charlie Crew have been on the outskirts of the squad for some time now, and it looks as though they may be needed very shortly.

What a nightmare week this has been.
