‘If the player wants to go’ – PL journo says attacker likely to sign for Leeds at ‘right price’

Man City insider Simon Bajkowski has delivered an upbeat assessment of Leeds United signing Jack Harrison at the end of this season.

Talking to LeedsLive’s Beren Cross on Sunday, Bajkowski – a journalist on the Manchester Evening News – said that Harrison’s progress in his second year at Elland Road “has continued to exceed expectations… From an outside perspective, it looks to have been a successful year.”

It had been mentioned that the player might have played his way into Man City’s plans for next season

Bajkowski didn’t rule this out completely saying, “Before football’s suspension, he wasn’t central to their plans, but neither had he been completely discounted… Harrison has impressed Pep Guardiola previously and the coach will also get an honest appraisal from his close friend Bielsa.”

However, asked if there would be any resistance from Man City for a Leeds sale, he said, “Not if it was for the right price, although as just mentioned, who knows what state the transfer market will be in. Will around £8m in a few months be the same value as it was last season? Will Leeds be offering Premier League or Championship football? If the player wants to go I think he will go with City’s blessing, but only for the right price.”

Harrison has been superb this season and has been really unlucky not to have more goals.

If Leeds get promoted then we think that he will be one of the first players Bielsa tries to sign for the Premier League.

However, if promotion doesn’t happen then we don’t think the Harrison transfer happens either.

Saying that, it’s tough to see Harrison having a direct route into the Man City team, no-matter how impressed with him Pep has been.

The price might be a sticking point. £8m was looking like a bargain but player valuations are plummeting amid the Coronavirus outbreak and the upcoming transfer window is likely to be very different to any we’ve seen before.

It might be that Leeds think that £8m is still a fair price but we still see protracted negotiations as being a more likely step, despite that price representing a near £4.5m profit for Man City.
