‘If the opportunity was right’ – Former Leeds star admits he would consider Elland Road return

Kemar Roofe has said he would never rule out a return to Leeds United after his £5.4m move to Anderlecht in the summer.

The 27-year-old striker was a hit at Leeds and was the top scorer in the 18/19 season with 14 goals in 32 Championship games.

Talking in an exclusive interview with FourFourTwo magazine, Roof was asked about a possible Leeds return.

“If the opportunity was right, I’d never say no. It was massively hard to leave. I was settled and all the fans were incredible, but my contract was up and it’s part of football.

“The ideal world would have been getting promoted at Leeds and staying there in the Premier League, but it wasn’t to be. It might still happen for them – it would be amazing.”

Roofe still holds Leeds in his heart and was caught calling the club “we” in a recent interview on talkSPORT.

If Leeds stayed in the Championship then fans would no doubt welcome him back with open arms.

However, if the plan for promotion hits home this season and Leeds get into the Premier League, we think Marcelo Bielsa will be looking for a different calibre of player.

Jean-Kevin Augustin is the striker that Bielsa has identified as the man to lead the line in the Premier League and while he’s got a lot to prove at Elland Road, his CV – PSG, RB Leipzig and Monaco – suggests real potential.

We loved Roofe’s time at Leeds and he came close to firing the club into the Premier League.

However, we can’t see a way back for the 27-year-old on the club’s current trajectory.
