‘I’d have said no chance’ – Cascarino names Leeds player who’s surprised him this season

Former Millwall striker Tony Cascarino has claimed that Patrick Bamford’s form for Leeds United this season has surprised him.

Bamford scored his tenth Premier League goal of the season in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Burnley as he continues to prove than he can perform in the English top flight.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Cascarino hailed Leeds’ entertaining football while admitting his shock at Bamford’s incredible form.

He said, “I love everything I see about Leeds. Leeds United will be a Premier League team next season.

“They way they play, who they buy. If you said to me that Patrick Bamford would be getting goals on a regular basis at Leeds in the Premier League two or three years ago, I’d have said no chance.

“I think they should be applauded Leeds United. If I want to praise Burnley for the way they stay up, I’m certainly going to praise a team that entertain and stay up.”

Bamford’s Premier League credentials were doubted before the start of the season due to his poor top-flight record.

He immediately banished those doubts as he scored in the season-opening game between Liverpool and Leeds at Anfield.

He has gone from strength to strength since then and he should arguably have more goals to his name as he is getting plenty of chances every time he plays.

After scoring the goals that got Leeds promoted, Bamford is doing his best to keep his side in the Premier League and there will be plenty of opposition fans who had the same opinion as Cascarino.

Every goal will be extra sweet as the Englishman continues to prove his doubters wrong with Bamford sitting above proven Premier League strikers Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford in this season’s goalscoring table.

Long may his excellent form continue.
