Ian Wright stunned by Karl Darlow footage despite heavy Wales defeat vs England

Wales suffered back-to-back defeats under Craig Bellamy for the first time as they lost 3-0 to England at Wembley on Thursday.

Four Leeds players have been called up to the Wales squad and were looking to make history with Wales by beating England for the first time since 1977.

Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, and Karl Darlow all started the embarrassing defeat, with Dan James dropping out of the squad with an injury.

However, despite conceding three goals, Darlow was praised by Ian Wright for a moment he produced in the first half away from Leeds.

Karl Darlow produces magnificent save against England

Darlow decided to represent Wales in October 2024, with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, and he has received six caps already in the last year.

Speaking at half-time during live ITV coverage, former England striker Wright praised a save he made in the opening minutes.

Darlow produced a fantastic save from Anthony Gordon’s strike, getting a toe to his low effort.

Unfortunately for him, Morgan Rogers opened the scoring from the following corner after Marc Guehi’s smart cut-back.

Despite that, Wright said as footage replayed: “This is a very good save, this is a brilliant save.”

Darlow faced immense criticism for his own goal in the Carabao Cup exit to Sheffield Wednesday, with fans fearing the worst as the extent of Lucas Perri’s injury was made clear.

However, Darlow has received praise for his Premier League performances, using his experience to help Leeds pick up four points in his four Premier League starts.

Despite the heavy defeat to England, the 35-year-old shot-stopper continues to impress for Wales, and he’ll be hoping to represent his country at the 2026 World Cup if the Dragons are to qualify.

However, with Perri recovering from his quad injury, Darlow’s minutes at club level are set to be limited once again.

Lucas Perri set to resume starting role for Leeds

Darlow will drop to Leeds’ bench again as Perri gains full fitness over the international break.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been authoritative in his first three games for the Peacocks, and Daniel Farke has alluded to the fact that the 27-year-old will retain his starting place.

Perri kept two clean sheets in his three matches, whilst Darlow is yet to register one in all five games that he’s featured.

Darlow has done everything he can to prove to Farke why he must start for Leeds, and the Welshman will hope to produce a solid performance in Wales’ crucial World Cup qualifier against Belgium on 12 October.
