Ian Wright slams Leeds United defender Junior Firpo after footage emerges from Newcastle clash
Ian Wright has slammed Junior Firpo’s entire performance and the handball in particular that saw Newcastle secure a 2-2 draw against Leeds United.
The former Barcelona defender looked like a calamity waiting to happen and was even sent off in the final stages of the game on Saturday, 13 May.
However, Sam Allardyce’s men went on to keep the visitors at bay and ensure that the hosts get a point from this game.
Speaking on the Kelly & Wrighty Show, Wright said (15/03, 14:42), “Silly penalty what Firpo gave away. You just can’t be giving that away and then also getting sent off.”
Unacceptable
There have been plenty but this one clearly was right there with Firpo’s worst performances in a Leeds jersey.
Even the most ardent Whites fans in Elland Road will be surprised that he stayed on the pitch as long as he actually did.
Many watching the game will have been surprised as to why Allardyce did not choose to bring him off when he wasn’t having a great run out there.

He was constantly getting bullied and failed to do his defensive duties and his absence in the next game will actually benefit Leeds.
Whoever the manager is next season, will surely want him gone or at least give him an ultimatum in pre season to see something different.
It remains to be seen if the left-back is still at Elland Road next season and his sale could bring in a few millions so it’s worth considering.
