Ian Wright slams Leeds United defender Cody Drameh v Arsenal

Ian Wright has slammed Leeds United right-back Cody Drameh for his positioning in Gabriel Martinelli’s second goal for Arsenal on Saturday.

The 20-year-old was handed his first Premier League start by Marcelo Bielsa, but he did not have a game to remember as Leeds lost 4-1.

Along with a number of players, he was at fault for the second goal, and Wright slammed him for his positioning.

In Premier League Productions’ half-time show, Wright said, “Their right-back. The number 37, yeah Drameh, he doesn’t need to be there. He’s ball-watching. It’s awful positioning.”

Harsh

Sure, Drameh was at fault for that goal, but so were so many others and it’s down to the system and not the individuals.

Had a full-strength Leeds side been available to Bielsa, there would’ve been a higher level of performance.

However, one cannot expect someone like Drameh to know the system, as well as someone like Luke Ayling, would.

This game cannot be written off as a learning experience for the likes of Joe Gelhardt or Drameh as there was nothing they could possibly have gained.

It seemed like boys against men for most parts of the game – a similar feeling that was felt against Manchester City.

Leeds will not have long to tidy up their act as they’ve got one of the best teams in Europe in Liverpool next.

We wouldn’t want to be in Bielsa’s place now but he’s certainly got to turn things around quickly or there’s a real possibility that he could lose his job.
