Ian Wright shares verdict on Kalvin Phillips injury blow in Leeds win v West Brom
Ian Wright has crossed his fingers over the fitness of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips ahead of England heading into EURO 2021.
The Yorkshire Pirlo was included in the 33-man provisional squad, despite potentially dislocating his shoulder against West Brom on Sunday.
Leeds confirmed at the start of the week that there is confidence in Phillips recovering ahead of the first game against Croatia.
Speaking on his podcast, Wright shared his verdict on the Yorkshire Pirlo with only a matter of weeks before the EUROs get going.
“It’s going to be Rice and one other,” he said.
“Depending on Jordan Henderson’s fitness, and Kalvin Phillips, fingers crossed that he can get through. Now, if everyone is fit – Bellingham has to go.”
Fingers crossed.
Rice and Phillips in midfield would be a great midfield pairing.
The West Ham man has certainly grown in his side’s success this season and could be the dynamic pairing that is perfect for the quarterback that is the Leeds star.
Compared via WhoScored, Phillips is actually miles ahead of his international teammate.
The Leeds ace has completed more tackles, clearances and key passes per game, as he took to the Premier League like a duck to water.
Wright is a huge fan of Phillips and made that very clear when he did a special interview around West Yorkshire for the BBC in recent months.
It should be guaranteed that he is going to the EUROs, we just have everything crossed that he doesn’t miss out on this huge opportunity for his country.
