Ian Wright reacts to Leeds United manager news as Alfred Schreuder links emerge

Ian Wright has described the Leeds United managerial search as “desperate” following the emergence of Alfred Schreuder as the new front-runner to succeed Jesse Marsch.

The 50-year-old, who has supposedly already held talks with the Leeds hierarchy, was only sacked as Ajax boss in January, and Wright believes their search for a new manager has turned worrying.

Phil Hay reported that as well as talks, Schreuder was spotted at the team hotel ahead of the 2-0 defeat against Manchester United over the weekend.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 on Sunday 12 February, Wright was not left convinced by those who are in charge of the decision at Elland Road.

“I worry for Leeds fans because they’ve got the same people in charge who are going to try and get the next manager”, the 59-year-old said.

“It looks a bit desperate for me.”

Worrying?

The BBC are reporting that the former Club Brugge and Ajax boss is the new favourite for the top job at Elland Road, and was in attendance for their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday (12 February).

Leeds’ protracted search for a replacement for Marsch has led them down all manner of routes, with the club looking at the likes of Carlos Corberan, Marcelo Gallardo and Mauricio Pochettino But are they looking to continue with the high-octane approach of Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa, or will the club’s hierarchy turn to the likes of Schreuder to perhaps bring more structured but effective football?

The fact that each name Leeds are linked to brings something different to the table does suggest their search has become rather jumbled, following Corberan’s preference to stay with current club West Brom.

Andrea Radrizzani doesn’t appear to be helping the mood among fans either, as he tweeted that the club will ‘keep praying and making interviews’ in relation to the search, before swiftly deleting the post.

Time is now of the essence for the Yorkshire outfit, who will want to make an appointment before their crunch match with fellow strugglers Everton next week.
