Ian Wright: Raphinha lucky not to be sent off for Leeds United v Arsenal

Ian Wright has insisted that Leeds United star Raphinha was lucky not to be sent off in the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal.

The Brazilian was consistently in the face of the referee after Luke Ayling was sent off, and was shown a yellow card of his own.

That didn’t stop Raphinha from continuing his protests, and he was eventually dragged away by his teammates at the Emirates.

Speaking live on Match of the Day 2 on Sunday [08 May], Wright could not believe his eyes at the Brazilian.

“I tell you what with Raphinha,” he said.

“When you look at the amount of bookings Leeds have had, for him to be going at the referee like he was, he could have easily have been sent off.”

Leeds United

Shocker.

Raphinha never once looked as though his head was in the game.

The Brazilian was exposed massively down the right, and before Leeds could do anything about it, they were two-nil down and also only had 10 men.

Jesse Marsch and his tactics have not worked one little bit for our star man, who has yet to make any massive impact since his arrival.

With only three games to go though, we need Raphinha to start standing up with his performances or we are in big trouble.

Being dragged off after an hour is not what he would want, and definitely not what we want, but unfortunately, it’s not getting any easier with Chelsea next up at Elland Road.

Raphinha needs to feed off the home crowd and perform, hopefully using some of that anger he had yesterday to fuel it.

All it takes is one moment to turn everything around, and we are praying that it comes on Wednesday evening.
