Ian Wright posts one-word tweet as Leeds star Phillips earns England call-up

Ian Wright is delighted to see that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been called up to the latest England squad.

England’s official Twitter account announced the news on Tuesday ahead of UEFA Nations League clashes against Iceland and Denmark.

Phillips has the chance to earn his debut cap in one of those games and Arsenal legend Wright is clearly ecsatic despite tweeting just one word.

“Finally,” said Wright on his personal Twitter account.

Phillips is bound to earn his debut for England in one of those two matches with Eric Dier and Declan Rice his competition to play in the defensive midfield roles.

However, the midfielder did pick up an injury before the season came to an end so it’s likely that he’s only going to be used as a substitute by Gareth Southgate.

Playing as a defensive midfielder for England is a tough role.

Rice and Dier have been widely criticised by England supporters for their performances with the famous Three Lions on their shirt and as Leeds are a club that everyone has it in for, Philips might be under a lot of pressure from fans.

However, we are backing Phillips to thrive under that pressure.

Playing for Leeds isn’t easy.

The supporters demand a lot from their players and even Phillips isn’t immune to criticism from the stands at Elland Road.

With no fans watching the England matches due to the coronavirus pandemic, it might be a bit easier for him and his team-mates to perform.

In other Leeds United news, this striker is on the verge of leaving Leeds on loan.
