Ian Wright jokes Leeds United should keep 'amazing' Mateusz Klich after Elland Road scenes
Ian Wright has suggested that Leeds United should be keeping Mateusz Klich after he was given an emotional send-off at Elland Road.
The Polish international is set to head to D.C. United in the MLS during the January transfer window, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, and Wednesday’s match (4 January) against West Ham appears to have been his last for the football club.
The 32-year-old will leave after more than 200 appearances but Wright believes he should be staying after the emotional scenes at full-time of the Whites’ 2-2 draw against West Ham United.
“He was amazing,” Wright said on Match of the Day. “He was amazing, especially under Bielsa and it’s nice to see the players and the fans giving him that kind of sending off.
“With that much love, they should keep him.”
Marcelo Bielsa’s reign at Elland Road was an incredible one and no Leeds United fan will forget those days in a hurry but Jesse Marsch knows that he has to now carry the club out of that era and into his own.
For that to happen, some of the Argentine’s favourites, like Klich, have to make way for the American to bring in his own signings and they have already taken over the midfield department.
Tyler Adams and Marc Roca have made that position their own so Klich has only been getting appearances off the bench this season and it meant he missed out on Poland’s World Cup squad as a result.
He doesn’t want to be out of the reckoning internationally for any longer and a move to the MLS is seemingly the way he has chosen to go in an attempt to return to the fold.
He will join up with Wayne Rooney and impart his knowledge on D.C. United while remaining a cult hero at Elland Road for a very long time.
