Ian Wright blown away by Leeds star Kalvin Phillips in BBC interview

Ian Wright has been thrilled by the performances of Kalvin Phillips when meeting the Leeds United star this week for the BBC.

The Yorkshire Pirlo has progressed massively since promotion to the Premier League and has even cemented his spot in the England side.

Wright recalled the 1-1 draw with Brentford last season as the first time he noticed Phillips, claiming that he left the game telling everyone of his talent.

Speaking on BBC Football Focus, Wright shared his thoughts on the progression and newfound friendship with the Yorkshire Pirlo.

“I remember watching you, I came to watch Leeds take on Brentford,” he said.

“When I left the game, I was saying to everybody, I’ve just watched somebody, it was like a man playing against kids. You were on fire.

“That’s why I started blasting you, I just have to get in touch.”

Dominant.

Phillips has been completely transformed by Marcelo Bielsa, and as he mentions in the clip, it all stems from him wanting to “smash” opponents when younger.

The 25-year-old has it all and is easily the first name on the teamsheet in this system that is built around him in that quarterback role.

With every passing game, Phillips is proving his worth and these games against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool will only bring the best out of him.

Wright is a massive fan of the Whites, and we can only imagine what he would be like should we pull off another huge win over the Premier League champions on Monday.

Phillips will be critical to any chances of that.
