Ian Wright and Gary Lineker react to wild Leeds United final day scenes as Premier League survival sealed

Gary Lineker and Ian Wright have reacted to the wild scenes on the final day of the Premier League between Leeds United and Burnley this weekend.

The Whites travelled to Brentford knowing they needed to do the business, but also needed Newcastle to do them a favour at Turf Moor due to their poor goal difference.

Leeds got exactly that in the end, winning 2-1 against the Bees, with the Magpies winning by the same scoreline to send Burnley packing into the Championship.

Speaking live on Match of the Day on Sunday evening [22 May], Lineker kicked off the discussion with a message for the travelling fans who went wild in London.

“It’s Burnley who go, Leeds fans will be absolutely ecstatic staying in the Premier League,” he said.

Wright also reacted but sent a message to those watching down on proceedings at Elland Road that may be feeling quite lucky this morning after developments.

“I think the Leeds board is breathing a sigh of relief. Raphinha has finally come to the party for them.”

Wow.

The next day and we still can’t believe our eyes at all of the developments yesterday.

From Burnley giving away a penalty, to Leeds getting one of their own and ending the game against nine men, the footballing gods were really shining on us.

It is nothing short of what we deserved in the end though, with torrid luck one of the main reasons we were in this position in the first place with big injuries.

Raphinha was the man of the moment, but there were big performances from the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Sam Greenwood in midfield who were phenomenal.

Wright is spot on, the Leeds board need to use this as a warning though and it looks like they have, with a bid already accepted for Brenden Aaronson at RB Salzburg [Phil Hay].

Hopefully, that is the first signing of many this summer as we really look to kick on.
