Ian Poveda to leave Leeds United on trial basis this week, still wants chance with Jesse Marsch - Graham Smyth
Leeds United winger Ian Poveda will leave for Blackburn this week on a trial basis, according to Graham Smyth.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist shared that Tony Mowbray will then make a decision on whether he can help Rovers’ late push for the playoffs.
Poveda is still hoping to return to try and catch the eye of Jesse Marsch over the summer at Thorp Arch.
Writing in his latest piece for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Smyth shared the latest on the future of the winger.
“Later this week Poveda will report to Blackburn, for whom he made eight appearances in the second tier earlier this season, on a trial basis so Tony Mowbray can decide if he wants the winger to rejoin the squad for the final three games,” he wrote.
“Beyond that, Poveda will be one of those hoping to return and catch the eye of Jesse Marsch at Thorp Arch this summer. Leeds director of football Victor Orta made a point of insisting Poveda’s future remained at Elland Road when the loan deal was initially signed.”
Poveda hasn’t exactly hit the ground running for the Whites since arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City.
The winger struggled to make a name for himself in the first-team and even with the under-23s in his first year before making the odd Premier League appearance last season.
Marsch has been evaluating his entire squad, and because of that injury, Poveda hasn’t had that chance that will come in the summer.
With Raphinha expected to leave and Helder Costa also coming back from Valencia, it looks as though it will be a huge summer for our options on the wing.
As a consistent Premier League starter, we just don’t see that from Poveda at this stage of his career, but look at the progression of Jack Harrison in recent years.
It could still happen, but at this moment in time, it is going to take a lot from the winger to recover to 100% and then progress to yet another level.
