Ian Poveda loan exit on cards on Deadline Day as late Leeds United transfer news drops
Graham Smyth has heard “one or two noises” about a possible loan departure from Leeds United for Ian Poveda before the transfer window closes.
The 23-year-old has accumulated just 144 minutes for the Whites this season, with just seven Championship appearances to his name.
Daniel Farke was adamant that there would be no further departures this transfer window due to limited numbers in the squad but Smyth believes Poveda could leave Elland Road on loan.
“There have been one or two noises today about the possibility of something happening with Ian Poveda before the deadline,” the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist wrote on Thursday (1 February, 3:56pm).
A departure makes sense
Poveda’s only 90-minute appearance of the season came against Birmingham City in the second match of the Championship campaign, showcasing the lack of need for his services.
With Dan James close to a return from injury, and Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto available again, the Colombian international is far down the pecking order and is not likely to get a look-in under Farke.
Having arrived from Manchester City in 2020, the youngster’s career at Elland Road has been relatively disappointing, being shipped out on loan to Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool in recent seasons.

Four years after signing, Poveda has made just 30 appearances for the Whites and would, therefore, not be a total miss if he were to leave the club in the current window.
He is certainly a player to keep an ear out for, with only hours remaining until the transfer window closes.
In other Leeds United news, a player is set to jet in from France to ignite a last-gasp Whites signing, depending on a medical.
