Ian Poveda leaves Leeds United to seal Sheffield Wednesday transfer on Deadline Day
Leeds United winger Ian Poveda is set to complete a move to Sheffield Wednesday before the transfer window closes at 11 pm, according to The Star.
The newspaper reported via its website [1 February] that the 20-year-old set off from Leeds at around 4:30 pm earlier on Thursday, travelling to Sheffield to seal the late move.
It is understood that the player’s permanent transfer is set to be announced before the transfer window deadline, once the finer details have been penned in.
Birmingham City were also interested in the Leeds winger but a move to The Owls looks imminent.
No chance at Elland Road
It was about time that Poveda left Elland Road, considering his serious lack of playing time at the club since his move from Manchester City in 2020.
The winger has made just 30 appearances in Leeds colours in four years, with just 10 of those coming under Daniel Farke this season. With only one Championship start to his name, it is unlikely that the young attacker will be missed.
Although harsh, Poveda has failed to hit the heights that were expected of him when he arrived at Elland Road and the loans to Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool looked to have done nothing to help his development.

He recently earned his Colombia debut, playing twice during December when Farke allowed him to depart the club for international duty, and he was on fine form for his country.
However, with Dan James, Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto all above him in the pecking order, it is highly unlikely that he will be given the opportunity to continue that form.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay reports that the Whites are in line to complete a “priority” incoming deal ahead of the deadline.
