Ian Poveda issues Twitter verdict on Leeds title hopes ahead of Ch’ship restart
Leeds United winger Ian Poveda has taken to Twitter to express his belief that the Whites are capable of winning the Championship when the league restarts later this month.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men are seven points clear of the play-off places and one point ahead of second-placed West Brom with nine matches left to play.
Their last competitive match came in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on March 7th.
Gearing up for the planned resumption of action in the second tier, the club shared a quote from Liam Cooper to their official Twitter account on Monday which read: “We have to go full tilt for nine games.
“We gave to be strong. I believe we are the fittest, strongest team.
“There’s not one lad that doesn’t believed we can go and win the Championship”.
And Poveda, who has yet to make his senior debut for Leeds after joining from Manchester City in January, was quick to support the claim.
Writing on his own personal account, he retweeted the original quote alongside the caption: “100%…
“One hundred percent!!!”
It’s good to hear Poveda being so positive about our title prospects, and really gives a sense of how well integrated he is at Elland Road.
It’s probably fair to say that we expected more from the young wide man during the early stages of his Leeds career, with Phil Hay even admitting that his lack of involvement thus far has been “strange”.
But there has been plenty to be positive about in terms of his performances for the U23s this term, not least his fantastic assist for Bobby Kamwa against Barnsley in March.
Even if we don’t see Poveda between now and the end of the season, we still have high hopes for his future at the club.
By his own estimations, he could be a Premier League player soon enough.
