Ian Poveda injury update emerges at Sunderland ahead of Leeds United showdown
Ian Poveda has sustained an injury and will be unavailable for the Championship clash between Leeds United and Sunderland on Friday (4 October).
The 24-year-old was a second-half substitute in the Black Cats’ 2-0 win over Derby County on Tuesday 1 October, only lasting 11 minutes before being replaced with a new muscle injury.
Poveda has only recently made the switch to the Stadium of Light, having joined as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Elland Road. He made just 30 appearances in four years with the Whites.
Speaking in a press conference, quoted by the Sunderland Echo [3 October], Regis Le Bris said: “For Ian, it is still too early for the full diagnosis but I think it is going to be a long injury, maybe four or six weeks.”
Ian Poveda to miss Leeds United reunion v Sunderland
Some fans will certainly be disappointed by this news. Any football fan is disappointed when a former player is ruled out of facing them following their exit.
However, the Elland Road faithful will certainly not be shedding any tears over the winger reinforcements signed during the summer, especially Largie Ramazani who continues to light up the Championship.
The 23-year-old now has two goals and one assist in his three starts for the Whites, filling Crysencio Summerville’s spot on the left flank rather well, and Wilfried Gnonto already starring.

Sunderland are the team to beat so far in the Championship, especially as West Brom dropped to fourth after their recent defeat to Middlesbrough, and Leeds will take as many advantages as possible.
Daniel Farke has been hit with several injury blows, with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev facing time on the sidelines [Yorkshire Evening Post], but the Whites need all three points from the Stadium of Light.
In other Leeds United news, a Thorp Arch prospect has never been given a better chance to earn his senior debut.
