Ian Poveda could have been made to train separately at Leeds United by Jesse Marsch – Beren Cross

Beren Cross has insisted that Jesse Marsch has taken a big step with Leeds United winger Ian Poveda in recent weeks.

The attacker has been recovering from a long-term injury but was spotted with the first-team group at Thorp Arch this week.

Leeds Live journalist, Cross, has shared that it would have been easy for Marsch to make Poveda train by himself away from the group.

Writing in his latest piece for Leeds Live, Cross suggested upcoming games could have changed plans for Poveda.

“Seeing the former Manchester City winger out on the pitches at Thorp Arch is a big step and a long way forward from lifting weights in the gym.

“It would be very easy for Marsch to keep Poveda separate from his main group, which is going through drills and exercises critical to important coming matches.”

Big step.

It was a big vote of confidence for Poveda, who will have taken a big hit to his confidence going through this injury.

The winger returning to Blackburn this week will also give him the chance to get some minutes in before coming back to Thorp Arch in the summer.

Poveda is a big character in this dressing room, that is very clear, but he needs to prove himself before making an impact under Marsch.

The American will want to put his own influence on things in this squad once the season is over, and that will mean players coming in and going out.

Poveda is certainly on the chopping block, so it will be interesting to revisit this in a few months’ time over the summer.

The fanbase will no doubt be split on this one, with Poveda not really showing he has the quality to make it in the Premier League consistently.

In other Leeds United news, this young prospect is quitting Leeds and turned out for his potential new club on Tuesday night.
