Ian Dennis shares UEFA update with Leeds United now potentially set for May change

Leeds United could be set for a fixture alteration after Manchester City reached the Champions League semi-final, according to BBC Sport journalist Ian Dennis.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat Bayern Munich 4-1 on aggregate to advance through to the last four, where they will meet serial European winners, Real Madrid.

The Whites were meant to travel to The Etihad on Sunday 7 May, but due to City facing off against Madrid on the following Tuesday (9 May), the clash against Javi Gracia’s side could well be subject to change.

BBC journalist Dennis said (via Twitter, 19 April): UEFA confirm semi-final schedule for Champions League semi-finals. Imagine that Manchester City v Leeds United on Sunday 7 May will now be subject to change.”

Shame

Leeds fans have been robbed of a good away trip to Manchester on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It will be a shame if the move is confirmed, with a midweek fixture now the likely alternative. Gracia will be hoping Leeds’ league position is slightly healthier before they head to The Etihad.

The Champions will be chasing another league title and will be in full flow; it’s simply unrealistic to expect Leeds to pick up anything from a trip to the blue side of Manchester.

One saving grace could be the league title being rapped up before Leeds face off against Guardiola’s side, although extremely unlikely. Arsenal are likely to push the Citizens all the way with final-day drama likely to ensue.

The Whites must first focus on their upcoming fixtures against Fulham, Leicester and Bournemouth. The trio of games presents Leeds with a chance to get their faltering campaign back on track after the dreadful home losses to Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

In other Leeds United news, a senior player is also on his way to sealing a permanent exit from the club with an offer of £13.2million to be accepted in the coming weeks.
