'I wish...' - Jean-Kevin Augustin sends message to Leeds fans after finding new club

Jean-Kevin Augustin has taken to Twitter to send a thank-you message to Leeds United fans after sealing a move to join Nantes.

Leeds signed Augustin, 23, on a loan-to-buy basis from RB Leipzig in January but injury and fitness issues meant that the French striker barely played in the Championship and was sent back to Germany at the end of June.

Leipzig threatened legal action against Leeds because they felt that the Whites were obliged to sign the forward permanently after winning promotion to the Premier League.

However, in an unexpected deadline day twist, Ouest-France reported that Augustin was due to sign a two-year contract at Nantes.

It’s hopefully ended what has been an ugly saga between two clubs who didn’t want Augustin but the player has nothing but admiration for the club he signed for on loan earlier this year.

Just a quick message to thank all the Leeds fans that have been supporting me since day one. I wish the club to do well and keep on shining in the Premier League,” said Augustin via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning.

We’re glad that Augustin has found himself a new club and that he hasn’t been left in limbo by Leipzig over the course of the season.

If he didn’t sign for Nantes then it was likely that Leipzig would continue to not play the striker and that would’ve seriously damaged his career.

Augustin’s still a young striker and we hope that he can reach the heights that were once expected of him.

Nantes are good club and he should flourish being back in France.

It’s unlikely the Nantes manager will have the same fitness expectations as Marcelo Bielsa so you’d think he would get more than just a few appearances off the bench there.

In other Leeds United news, one thing just doesn’t sit right about Leeds’ transfer activity.
