‘I stopped…’ – Leeds star jokes that fans could have cursed him this season
Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has joked that his famous chant by fans has potentially cursed him in terms of scoring goals.
The Polish international enjoyed one of the best seasons in his career in front of goal, scoring 10 goals and also adding nine assists.
That sparked the famous chant that we hear almost every week in the Championship, despite Klich only scoring three times this season.
Klich admitted that he enjoys hearing the chant, but did joke that it could have affected him this season when trying to replicate that form.
“Although last season I think the chant cursed me a little bit,” he said on an official Q&A.
“I stopped scoring for a bit. But I like it.”
Klich’s only three goals this season have all come against Middlesbrough, a club that he also admitted to nearly joining before making the switch to Elland Road.
The 29-year-old has been a thorn in their side and many other teams in the Championship after breaking the most consecutive starts record for the Whites recently.
Even though Klich’s goal involvements haven’t been the same this season, he has still impressed. He averages the same amount of shots per game but does complete more key passes and is dispossessed fewer times according to WhoScored.
