'I made several mistakes' - Salim Lamrani makes admission about job at Leeds

Marcelo Bielsa’s former translator Salim Lamrani has admitted that he made “several mistakes” during press conferences in his time at Leeds United.

Lamrani worked with Bielsa at Lille, translating between French and Spanish for the Argentine coach.

Once Bielsa moved to Elland Road last summer, Lamrani followed him and served as a translator once again before he was eventually replaced by Diego Flores.

There has not been an official reason as to why Lamrani stopped working alongside Bielsa but he has shed some light on why he may have moved on.

“In Lille, the advantage was that I translated from Spanish to French and from French to Spanish, thus using my mother tongue, but I had prepared before and had seen and translated all the press conferences he gave during the two years he was at Athletic Bilbao, with a list of soccer vocabulary that he used to use and that I had memorized,” Lamrani told Argentine news outlet La Nacion.

“In Leeds, the task was more complex: I had to translate from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English, which were not my mother tongues.

“The experience in France had accustomed my brain to the intellectual gymnastics that interpretation entails.

“I was also more familiar with Marcelo’s way of thinking.

“But I needed adaptation time to refresh my English.

“In fact, I made several mistakes during the press conferences.”

Lamrani definitely sounds as though he’s explained why he has left Leeds.

If he felt as though he was struggling to do the job and even admitted to making errors in press conference then it could have been a mutual agreement that he would be replaced as Bielsa’s translator.

Lamrani remains popular among Leeds United supporters for his time at the club and a lot of them still follow and talk to Bielsa’s former translator on Twitter.

He must know a lot about how one of football’s greatest brains works.

It would be great to see someone in the English press pick his brains over Bielsa.

In other Leeds United news, Peter Swan says Leeds would guarantee promotion if they sign this one player.
