Leeds United may have won 4-0 against Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday but that did not stop Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink from becoming frustrated with Helder Costa.
Costa, 26, has been a mainstay for Leeds this season with him appearing in every Championship fixture.
However he was not at the races in the first half of the match on Humberside this weekend with Hasselbaink not being a fan of his passing until he supplied the assist for Pablo Hernandez’s goal just after the break.
“Jimmy, was this perhaps the best through-ball we’ve seen by Helder Costa? Because I know his passing in the first half was frustrating you,” David Prutton asked Hasselbaink on Sky Sports Football at full-time.
The former Leeds and Chelsea striker replied: “Yes, a little bit because I know he has got quality. But he sees this [pass to Hernandez] perfectly.”
It is something that has troubled Leeds fans for most of the season because everyone knows that Costa can tear up the Championship on his day, but we just haven’t seen that enough from him this season.
The Portugal international is set to join the Whites permanently from Wolves in the summer for £15million and his recent displays have slowly but surely started to prove that he’s worth that much.
But the difference between his first-half display and his second-half display just shows that the inconsistency remains in his game.
If Costa can stamp that out before the end of the season then he could be a useful player for Leeds next season whether they’re in the Premier League or not.
In other Leeds United news, fans have been raging over this midfielder’s situation at Elland Road.
