‘I didn’t agree with her’ – Cascarino delivers Leeds verdict amid new Carney Twitter development
talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has said that he didn’t agree with Karen Carney’s comments about Leeds United getting promoted because of Covid.
Cascarino was speaking after a new development that has seen Carney delete her Twitter account because of the abuse she has received online.
Carney made her comments during the Amazon Prime coverage of the 5-0 win against West Brom and it’s become a hugely controversial issue.
Leeds tweeted a bemused response and it caused a pile-on from fans with a small minority targeting her with abuse.
Carney has now deleted her Twitter profile while Leeds have resisted pressure to delete their tweet.
Talking on the Breakfast show Cascarino said, “I didn’t agree with her comments about Leeds and obviously Covid and that’s why they got promoted.
“I didn’t agree with that. But I don’t get how people get so offended, it’s just her opinion.
“She backed it up with her argument which is a valid argument – I didn’t agree with it.
“But she’s there to give an opinion and if you stop giving an opinion you won’t be in the industry for long.”
Back to the football
People love talking about Leeds but hopefully the Carney story stops here and the focus shifts towards an absolutely fascinating game against Tottenham on Saturday.
Cascarino has come out with one of the more measured responses to the furore.
Whatever we think of the Carney argument, it’s just an opinion. People are entitled to say what they like.
Carney isn’t the first and won’t be the last pundit to come up with analysis that makes fans angry.
However, as Max Rushden went on to say in the show, it’s not hard to be nice. You can disagree with someone without resorting to abuse.
As Leeds fans, we should take a leaf from the club and act in a progressive manner that sets us apart from everyone else in the Premier League.
That might be a forlorn hope on social media and we think there should be more transparency and accountability there.
Now, though, it’s time to look ahead to a huge clash with Jose Mourinho.
