‘I can’t see it happening’ – Leeds ace discusses how to end season, has own plan involving Dubai
Leeds United star Mateusz Klich cannot see the 2019/20 season being chalked off as though it never happened amid suggestions that it should be made null and void.
A number of fans, journalists, pundits and high-ranking officials within the game have called for the season to be scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc on the football schedule.
If the season was to be declared null and void then Leeds would see their best effort to return to the Premier League in 16 years come to nothing, with the Whites currently sitting top of the Championship and seven points clear of third nine games to play.
However midfielder Klich, 29, is sure that Leeds fans won’t have to witness that kind of injustice and instead wants to see out the remaining fixtures.
“I can’t see it happening and I hope it won’t happen. I just want to play nine games and finish the season, that’s it,” Klich said, as quoted by LeedsLive.
When asked what his solution would be to finish the 2019/20 season, the Poland international said: “I have no idea. There’s nine games. We need three weeks, one month? We can go somewhere. We can go and play in Dubai or somewhere.
“I have no idea. It’s difficult, it’s not an easy situation. There are people better than me who know how to deal with it.”
Klich’s idea about having the matches played in Dubai is something that some people might push for due to the money that could be involved.
But if those games were to take place in June, July and August, then there’s little chance of them happening in the Middle East when the Qatar World Cup in 2022 has been pushed back until the winter.
Playing matches at neutral venus is a plan that has appeared already with stadiums in the Midlands and London being tipped to host fixtures.
We are still at an early stage in this lockdown though and a lot can happen in the coming weeks and months regarding football.
